Osteoporosis is a condition that affects the bones. It causes them to become weak and fragile and more likely to fracture from a minor fall or, in serious cases, from a simple action such as a sneeze.
The higher the loss of bone density, the higher the risk of spontaneous vertebral fractures so as a Pilates instructor I need to have an understanding of the degree of the client bone’s density loss and what this means for them. I am specialized on Pilates for Osteoporosis conditions and can create a tailor made plan for you.
Exercise is really important in the prevention and management of osteoporosis. It will help to:
- Increase muscle strength
- Improve balance
- Reduce the risk of falls
- Minimise bone loss
- Improve well-being
- Reduce the risk of other medical conditions
A General Practitioner should always recomment the client whether they can practise Pilates depending on the stage of Osteoporosis they have.
